A Small Vacation to Hilo – Healing Moments and an Unexpected Reunion

The other day, I took a small vacation to Hilo on the Big Island after a long time off.
Hilo is quiet, rainy, and not flashy as a tourist destination,
but to me, it’s a truly soothing place.
As a busy massage therapist, it was precious time for me to reset both my mind and body.

In such a Hilo, I had an unexpected encounter.
While I was drinking alone at the hotel bar, a friendly old man spoke to me,
and somehow, I ended up talking about my work.
I said, “I’m a massage therapist on Oahu.”

A few days later—
To my surprise! It turned out that he also lives on Oahu and was in Hilo for work,
and he happened to live not far from Cocolomi Massage.
He actually came in to receive a massage from me.

I didn’t expect him to really come, so I was surprised and happy.
It made me feel warm inside, thinking,
“A casual conversation during a trip can connect people like this.”

It’s these small miracles that make me love massage work even more,
and make me love traveling even more.

Hilo has the atmosphere of old Hawaii and is such a peaceful place.
I visited Rainbow Falls twice,
and with determination, I was able to catch a faint rainbow over the waterfall.

I also visited a mochi shop called Two Ladies Kitchen,
which is famous in Hilo, twice.
Their strawberry daifuku is very well known,
and when you order, they sell it freshly made.
The mochi was soft and chewy,
with a big strawberry inside — it was truly delicious!

Oahu is famous as a tourist destination,
but there are many laid-back, old Hawaiian-style islands just 20 to 30 minutes away by plane.
